Unix System Administrator – High-Security IT Operations (m/f/d)

We are looking for a Unix System Administrator (m/f/d) with a strong hands-on approach, solid troubleshooting skills, and the motivation to keep complex IT environments secure, reliable, and well-documented.

You will join an experienced international team and contribute to systems that support demanding stakeholders and security-sensitive projects.

Your role

In this role, you will support the operation, administration, and continuous improvement of Unix/Linux-based systems, primarily in Red Hat environments.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Administer Unix/Linux-based operating systems, including troubleshooting, installation, and setup.
  • Maintain compliance with security policies, including patch management and vulnerability remediation.
  • Perform backups and recovery using tools such as Netbackup.
  • Basic hardware management including racking, card/disk replacements, attaching to network(s), etc.
  • Installing third-party software following the instructions provided.
  • Document architecture, procedures, and operational guidelines for system administration.

 

  • Willingness to learn and acquire new skills (including acquiring relevant certifications).
  • Willingness to work on a rotating schedule (to cover the service hours) and to work outside of regular working hours (usually one Saturday per month).

 

Your profile

  • Strong expertise in Unix/Linux system administration (RHEL8, RHEL9, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for Unix/Linux systems.
  • Working with ticket system for incidents, problems, change management and configuration management.
  • Certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or similar are an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of English—both spoken and written.

 

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT
  • Knowledge of ITIL
  • Ability to Write Shell Scripts
  • Knowledge of container technology, especially Rancher
  • VMware/KVM knowledge
  • Windows Server Knowledge

Important Information

Due to the sensitive nature of our projects and the compliance requirements of our stakeholders, this position is based entirely on-site in northern Munich. Remote work is not an option.

Security clearance is required. Candidates should either already have the necessary clearance or be willing to go through the process.
